Intro to US Customs Brokerage: Part 5

CB5u – Intro to US Customs Brokerage Online Training, Part 5: Basic HTSUS Classification

US Customs Brokerage Part 5 is the fifth in a six-part series of introductory classes for US Customs Brokers, and should be taken after completion of Intro to US Customs Brokerage, Part 4.

Part 5 covers basic tariff structure, why it is important to use the right HTSUS classification, how tariffs are written, and what the rules are for interpretation. We also address the special provisions in Chapters 98 and 99, conditionally free and reduced duties, special treatment, rates of duty and computation of duty.

Once you finish this course, a printable Certificate of Completion will be available for download. The course can be completed in 20 hours or less and earns NCBFAA-registered students 19 CCS continuing education credits.

Important: The actual processing of a customs entry is covered in Part 6 of this introductory course series. If more than a basic understanding of HTSUS classification is needed, or a refresher course is required for importing into the United States, please look over course C6u — US Customs Tariff (HTSUS) Classification Basics. For an even more in-depth course (with several case studies) please see course C5 — Harmonized Tariff Classification.
